Dear Terrific Third Grader,

Welcome to a new school year! I know that this will be a very successful and fun year.  We have so many fascinating new things to learn! There will be many great books to read, subjects to explore, and new skills to master!

I am Mrs. Nyce.  I hope you had a very fun, exciting, and adventurous summer just like me.  I was able to spend some time at the beach this summer with my family! I can’t wait to hear about what you did this summer!

As you prepare for third grade, please consider bringing these supplies to class.

  • 4 large glue sticks

  • pencils and erasers (for personal use)

  • a box of pencils to share with the class

  • one set of crayons or colored pencils

  • a supply bag or pouch

  • 6 dry erase markers and one dry marker eraser (you can always use an old sock)

  • One 5-subject notebook to use as your writer’s notebook

  • 2 thin tip colored pens or markers-for self-correcting

  • 1 yellow highlighter

  • 1 pack of post-it notes any color or size

  • 1 homework folder Choose something sturdy and colorful!

  • 3 boxes of tissues

Band-Aids, Ziplock baggies (gallon or quart), or sanitizing wipes are appreciated as classroom donations

I can’t wait to learn all about each of you! As we build our learning community, we will spend time during the first week sharing about ourselves.  I will share about myself too. Please complete the “BROWN BAG IT” activity sheet and bring it to school on the first day.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!  I am looking forward to meeting you!  We are going to have a fantastic year in third grade!

                                                      Sincerely,

            Mrs. Nyce

                BROWN-BAG IT!

Directions:  First, begin by getting a paper bag.  Next, read each of the categories below.  Collect items from around your house for at least four of the categories below (no more than seven).  The items must be small enough to fit into your bag.  Try to find some items which are 3-D. Be sure to ask permission to take each item to school.  Be prepared to share the contents of your bag with your classmates on the first day of school.  Finally, add your name to the outside of the bag and decorate it if you’d like.  Have fun!
