Walk-a-Thon tomorrow

posted Oct 12, 2017, 12:14 PM by Brent Trinkle

Hello Parents,

Tomorrow is the Walk-a-Thon. We will be walking from 9:50-10:35. It may be a little muddy, so if your child has shoes that can get muddy have your child wear them to school tomorrow. After the Walk-a-Thon, your child can change into his/her not-muddy shoes.

Please also remember:
- Wear orange Skippack shirt (or just an orange shirt)
- A water bottle labeled with your child's name

Looking forward to a great day tomorrow!

Picture Day

posted Sep 21, 2017, 9:26 AM by Brent Trinkle

Hello parents,

Our class will be having picture day next Tuesday, September 26. Luckily our class will have pictures taken in the morning before lunch and recess. Forms to order pictures were sent home last week. If you need another one, please let me know and I can send it home. Feel free to send the order form ahead of time if you want.

Any questions, please let me know. Thanks!

Test Envelope

posted Sep 20, 2017, 4:47 AM by Brent Trinkle

Good morning parents,

This message was originally sent in an email. If an email you requested to be on my email list did not receive this message, please let me know so I can double check my contact list.

Coming home with your child today is his/her test envelope. You will see this envelope multiple times throughout the year. Inside it you will find tests that your child has taken in the past week or so. Please look over and review the tests. Once you did so, sign each test to acknowledge that you did look over the test. Then return all the tests to school in the envelope with your child. Please do not keep any materials at home.

In this weeks test envelope you will find 3 tests/assessments:

1. Start Smart Assessment - any high-frequency words that are circled please continue to work on them at home with your child. You child is only responsible for being able to read those words, not spell them. On the back side your child read sentences aloud to me. I gave a fluency score. If your child generally read word-by-word, he/she received a fluency score of 1. If he/she generally read words in groups of two, he/she received a fluency score of 2, and so forth. In first grade, most students received a score of 1 for fluency. This is normal for first graders! It does not mean they will receive a 1 on the report card, but it is more just to see how your child is reading fluently. This is something we will always continue to work on in first grade. At home, the best way to work on it is to have your child continue to read (and reread) books.

2. Chapter 1 Math Test

3. Fundations Unit 1 Test - the first part students just had to write the 26 lower case letters. I circled the letter if it was noticeably written with the incorrect formation or if your child wrote a capital instead of lower case. Any letters circled please continue to work on at home. On my website in the Fundations section you can find a guide on letter formation for first graders as well as blank Fundation line paper. The second part of the test, I said aloud a letter sound and students were to write the letter that made that sound.

If you have any questions about the test envelope or anything else, please let me know. Don't forget no school tomorrow, Thursday 9/21!
