Bryan Churchey

Welcome to my profile page! This is Mr. Churchey and I will be entering my 4th year as a Business Education Teacher and my 6th year overall working in PVSD. I am a proud Perkiomen Valley High School 2007 graduate and went onto attend Cabrini College graduating in 2011 with a BA in both History and Political Science before deciding in 2013 to go back to Cabrini to get my Masters in Education with Teacher Certification where I am currently certified in both Social Studies and Business education. While in school, I was a member of the men's lacrosse team, Phi-Alpha-Theta Honor Society, and was the Vice President of my class as a member of the Student Government Association at Cabrini. At Perkiomen Valley, I am the Head Boy's Lacrosse Coach entering my 8th season as the head coach and have also assisted with Powder Puff Football games, Student Government, and other extra-curricular activities! I am also currently the part owner and Director of a Business and have 12+ years of business experience working from the lowest rung on the pay scale to now part owner of the company in 2018.

I got into teaching because I love to serve others and there is no greater way to serve your community then giving back your knowledge, time, and expertise to the next generation of learners. PV is a special place and helped me become the person I am today they teachers and coaches I had directly impacted me in a positive way. I hope that I have a positive lasting impression on the kids I teach through sharing real-life business experiences both good and bad that have helped shape me and how I run a business. Forming that personal connection in the classroom I believe leads to a strong relationship of mutual trust and respect that will lead to student achievement and love for learning.

"If you want something you never had, you have to do something you've never done."
-Unknown

"Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work."-Stephen King

Going into 2020 there were over 31 million small businesses in the United States and every month over 500,000 people become entrepreneurs taking a risk of becoming a new small business owner. They are the backbone of the US Economy they are the innovators that have led to companies like Apple, Microsoft, Uber, Facebook, Instagram, and yes even Fortnite! But with starting a new business comes risk. Around 7 in 10 new employer firms survive at least 2 years, half at least 5 years, a third at least 10 years and a quarter stay in business 15 years or more

If 2020 as taught us anything it's also that most Americans do not do a great job of managing their personal finances or saving for that rainy day fund. Financially over 75% of Americans ages 18-30 are living paycheck-t0-paycheck and their average student loan debt is over $40,000 as of 2018. They're also at the highest risk of defaulting on their debt than any other generation in history.

Lastly, Social Media, I bet almost every parent has one, most college kids will start one for networking purposes and to stay connected with friends. Instagram? EVERY KID likely has one as the largest user group is teenages and young adults! What does that mean? It means that digital advertising is the future of reaching the consumer and businesses are pouring billions of dollars yearly to target us based on gender, age, location, income, likes/dislikes, who we follow etc. Understanding how this works and how companies use these platforms to reach new customers is something we take a look at deeper in Social Media in the Business World a BRAND NEW COURSE started at PV in 2019 and unique to our area!

So what I am getting at is Business and Financial Management is REAL! In our classroom are future business entrepreneurs, managers, financial advisers, home owners, and most importantly FAMILIES. The next generation of young American's have the greatest potential for success but are also at the greatest risk of poor fiscal responsibility. The goal of our classroom this year is to give students the knowledge and resources to become the future small business owner and financially responsible consumer in America. We'll be diving into real life scenario's, situations, and practice sound business/financial practices that will help them be successful later in life! I'm looking forward to sharing with them my personal experience's as a soon to be small business owner and the fiscal practices that will lead to their future success this year!

Personal Finance:

This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to the various concepts associated with personal finance and business law as well as provide a foundation for other financial courses offered here at Perkiomen Valley. A broad range of topics will be covered such as personal fiscal responsibilities, creating personal financial security, managing your credit, financial resources, and financial risk management. The objective of this course is for students to learn the real-life financial risks and responsibilities they will have in the future as well as how to be fiscally responsible with the resources they have focusing on their NEEDS not their WANTS! The course is geared toward practical knowledge that is necessary for financial decision making in everyday life.

Social Media in the Business World:

Today it’s evident that social media plays a vital role in the promotion, advertising, and branding of modern businesses. Instead of seeing social media as another type of entertainment and cool place for finding information, the objective of this course is to show students how businesses should consider social media as a powerful tool to help them disseminate the promotional message and increase brand awareness.

Through this course students will be able to learn what social media marketing is and what the most important social media websites are. There are many social networks, but only some of them will provide benefits for companies, which is why we’ll learn about the most popular social networking websites, the features, and the possibilities they offer as well as how you can optimize your usage of Social Media Marketing for reaching potential customers within a business.
