My Classes

The mission of the Perkiomen Valley School District is to provide a rich academic and cultural learning environment that maximizes available resources to assure that all students grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally, attaining the skills necessary to become successful citizens.

Dear New Fifth Grade Student,             September  2020

Hello!  My name is Mrs. Lycosky and I will be your fifth grade teacher.  I hope you are as excited as I am about this wonderful time of year.  August is the month that ends summer, but it is also the time when we begin to think about a new school year with a fresh start.  I am sure we will have a positive and productive year.

It has definitely been an interesting summer for my family.  Typically, we travel quite a bit during our time off in the summer. We stayed close to home this year which is probably the case for many of you too.  My 12 year old daughter, Samantha, played softball for Central Perk and my 9 year old son, Nathan, played baseball in the same league. So we spent a few days a week at the ball field.  Our family also went to the outdoor pool at the Spring Valley YMCA.  Both of my kids earned the green band which meant I could sit in my chair and read more when they swam in the deep end of the pool.  I was happy to get one day at the beach on my birthday in August, and we are hoping to spend a weekend in Wildwood this September.  While it was not our typical summer, we still made lots of memories together… although I think we are all looking forward to speaking with people outside our family of four!

Fifth grade is the year where you will be expected to be responsible and work very hard.  We will work together to help each other be successful with this virtual learning as best we can.  I plan to show up to school every day with a positive attitude and I hope you will too. The best part of my job is helping you become the very best you can be.

Organization will be very important this year.  Below is the suggested supply list for fifth grade.  If possible, please have your materials at the start of the school year.  If you think you will need other materials, just ask.

OUR FIRST WHOLE CLASS MEETING WILL BE ON Tuesday, September 8th from 8:40 to 9:15. This meeting is for BOTH AM AND PM students!  We will spend a few minutes saying hello and will make sure everyone is connected to our google classroom.  PM students will log off around 9:15 while the AM students will stick around for the rest of the normal morning session.  I will meet again with the PM students in the afternoon of September 8th as this is our scheduled time together.  A zoom link will be emailed to all students and parents.

I am looking forward to working with you and your parents this year.  If you have any questions, you can email me at blycosky@pvsd.org.  I hope you have a fun few days before school starts.  Rest up, relax, and be ready to start your best year of school with a positive attitude.  See you soon!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lycosky
