Dear New Fourth Grade Student,             August  2018

Hello!  My name is Mrs. Lycosky and I will be your fourth grade homeroom teacher.  You might be thinking to yourself- I thought Mrs. Lycosky taught 5th grade????  Well things are a little different this year for me.  Miss Smith and I will be team teaching both fourth and fifth grades for the 2018 to 2019 school year.  I will be your Math, Writing, and Social Studies teacher. Miss Smith with be your ELA and Science teacher.  We will both be working with fifth grade students for the same subject areas.

I hope you are as excited as I am about this wonderful time of year.  August is the month that ends summer, but it is also the time when we begin to think about a new school year with a fresh start.  I am sure we will have a positive and productive year.

It has been a wonderful summer filled with many adventures with my family.  My husband and I took our 10 year old daughter, Samantha, and 7 year old son, Nathan, on two separate vacations. First we spent the Fourth of July in Chicago, Illinois.  We visited many historic sights and museums. With extended family, we saw a Chicago Cubs baseball game and toured Wrigley Stadium. Corolla, NC was another destination of ours this summer.  Our family loves the beach- splashing in the waves, building sand castles, searching for seashells, and quality family time. The beach is my happy place! The rest of the summer was filled with day trips to the Philadelphia Zoo, the local library, and the YMCA.   It has been fantastic to be home with my family, but I am ready to get back in the classroom and am greatly looking forward to an exciting school year with you and your fellow classmates.

Organization will be very important this year.  Below is the suggested supply list for fourth grade.  If possible, please have your materials at the start of the school year.  If you think you will need other materials, just ask.

3 Packs of plain post it notes (3 X 3)

Your first assignment for the school year is to collect pictures that represent you and your interests.  Think about all the things that are important to you. You can cut out pictures from magazines or bring in photos.  Anything works as long as it tells us something about YOU! Just make sure to check with your parents before you take any photos from your albums.  Only bring in items approved by your parents. We will be using the pictures to decorate our writing journals, so keep that in mind when considering the size of the pictures.  You don’t have to do anything with the pictures yet. Just find pictures and bring them to school with you during the first week.

I am looking forward to working with you and your parents this year.  If you have any questions, you can email me at blycosky@pvsd.org.  I hope you have a fun few weeks before school starts.  Rest up, relax, and be ready to start your best year of school with a positive attitude.  See you soon!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lycosky
