Teacher Apprenticeship
The program introduces high school
seniors interested in pursuing a teaching career to all aspects of the profession. This includes learning to do lesson plans,
practicing classroom management, grading papers, developing a climate for success,
identifying characteristics of a good teaching, writing a resume, studying basic
school law, and teaching classes under the supervision of a coordinating
teacher. Students in this program will
start with a month long preparatory course before being placed with an
elementary or middle school teacher; they will work under the tutelage of their cooperating teacher until late April. Students must provide
their own transportation to and from the school where they are placed. This program is a full year course and will
require a weekly journal and other related projects throughout the year, including constructing a portfolio to record their experience.
