What is Explorations?
Explorations is the new name given to the special formerly known as Technology. So why not Technology class?  In the past, much of the curriculum in Technology class revolved around traditional programs such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.  However, much has changed.  Our lab is now Chromebook based and we are using Google Apps such as Docs, Slides, Forms, Drawing, and more. New to our curriculum is coding and engineering. Students in grades k-5 all use coding applications and languages that are grade appropriate. Additionally, students are also exposed to engineering concepts using LEGO robotics, Makey Makeys, Hot Wheels and other resources.  In Explorations, we will continue to explore all of these areas as they are now and as they change, so each day and year will take us different places. It's an exciting time in our room and I look forward to seeing where these changes take us!

Who is Mr. Silver?
I received a Bachelors degree in Film from Penn State and my Masters of Education degree from Temple University. I entered the field of education in 1999, after receiving my Elementary Education Certification from West Chester University. Prior to teaching, I worked as a Media Specialist/Community Relations Coordinator for a community hospital in Philadelphia. I began my teaching career as a 5th-grade teacher at South Elementary School in the Perkiomen Valley School District. When Schwenksville Elementary School opened, I was fortunate to join the new school as the Technology Teacher. For three years I was the Technology Integration Teacher, which allowed me to work more closely with teachers integrating technology more seamlessly into the classroom. In the Fall of 2016, Technology as a special and I returned to teaching all of the students. And in the fall of 2017 I officially take over the challenge of teaching Explorations!
