Recognition and Achievements:

Celebrating Excellence at PV Woods

PV Woods stands as a remarkable testament to the Perkiomen Valley School District’s commitment to environmental stewardship and social justice. As the only K-12 school in the world with two accredited arboretums—Lenape Arboretum and Muhlenberg Woods—PV Woods is a source of pride for our district and community. We are also the first K-12 public school in Pennsylvania to achieve arboretum accreditation, setting a precedent for integrating environmental education into public school curricula. These unique spaces provide opportunities for students and community members to engage with nature while fostering an appreciation for sustainability and equity. Below are some of the accolades and recognition that underscore PV Woods’ impact and leadership in environmental education. Stay Green ♻️ 🌳 Everyone!

PV Woods: Lenape Arboretum & Muhlenberg Woods both received the prestigious ‘Montgomery Award’ for Excellence in Planning and Design! The Montgomery County Planning Commission noted, “PV Woods is an outstanding environmental and cultural project that serves as an example of how a community, including students, educators, and indigenous peoples can work together to preserve the environment and its cultural heritage.”

We are so honored that ‘PV Woods – Lenape Arboretum & Muhlenberg Woods’ received the distinguished ‘Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence’ in 2023. This award highlights the best in environmental innovation and expertise throughout the Commonwealth. The awards dinner in Harrisburg included Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn, PA DCNR (Dept. Conservation & Natural Resources),

President Davitt Woodwell, PEC (Pennsylvania Enviromental Council) and Acting Secretary Richard Negrin, PA DEP (Dept. of Environmental Protection). Jeremy Johnson, Delaware Tribe of Indians (Oklahoma) was part of the PVSD delegation. For the 2023 awardees, PVSD was the only school district being recognized among several outstanding non-profits, businesses, and government agencies, who are also making a difference for the environment.

PV Woods is honored that the Arbor Day Foundation lists both PVMS West and PVMS East as official ‘Tree Campus K-12’ schools for a second year in a row: 2023 & 2024.
This designation recognizes these schools as leaders in tree stewardship.

The Arbor Day Foundation also highlighted a quote from Dr. Clune regarding our networking with other tree loving institutions. Additionally, in 2023, Perkiomen Valley Middle School East and Perkiomen Valley Middle School West were both selected as the ‘Program Spotlight’ in their Summary Infographic. The Tree Campus K-12 program is a nationwide program so it is an honor to have been selected. The Arbor Day Foundation made note of our partnership with Ursinus College and the Delaware Tribe of Indians. Outstanding Team Effort!! Thank you for all of the Tree Love 🌳 ❤️ 😊 !!!
