The Perkiomen Valley Curriculum and Instruction continues to be dedicated to empowering our students to grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally! What does it mean to engage and empower students? How can we think about classroom instruction differently? These are the critical questions we are discussing with our staff. We are also committed to supporting inclusive school communities. Our Curriculum Review and Professional Development are focused on these areas and are tied to District Goals.

In 2018, Governor Wolf signed Act 35 into law requiring that all school entities administer a locally developed assessment of US History, government and civics. PV administered the newly implemented standards-aligned Civics Exam to all 8th grade students in the spring of 2022. 85% of those taking the test earned a passing score.
Six students, recognized at the November Board Meeting (pictured along with recognized National Merit Scholars), earned a 100% on the exam!
On Tuesday, November 8, all instructional staff participated in a district led professional development conference. The focus was on Universal Design for Learning (UDL). The day started with excitement and PV spirit as cheerleaders from K-12 and high school section leaders led staff in spirit activities. The opening keynote included a video montage (below), We Are Vikings!, reminding us of our purpose (the students)!
The remainder of the morning included staff attending two workshop sessions of their choice. Administrators across the district led these sessions. After lunch, staff participated in a unity activity in the stadium in which staff formed “PV”. Drone footage (below) recorded the event.

Hogwarts Academy March 22
Hogwarts visited PV on March 9, 2022. The evening was a huge success! Over 1,000 muggles visited (as per the Harry Potter series, a muggle is a person without magical ability). The night was, in fact, magical and it was wonderful to see the community gathered to engage in an awesome opportunity for families. Participants constructed wands, listened to read alouds, attempted escape rooms, engaged in science experimentation, and so much more….we even enjoyed a visit from a snowy owl and other small creatures!
