The objective of Language Instruction Educational Programs (LIEPs) is to foster the development of English proficiency and academic achievement among students whose native or primary language is not English. Without instruction in social and academic English, and adequate support for mastering academic content, these students are vulnerable to missing out on the educational opportunities offered to their non-English language counterparts.
