School Bus Safety: BusPatrol

PVSD is proud to announce the launch of a new School Bus Safety Program in partnership with the Perkiomen Valley School District Police Department and BusPatrol, a leading stop-arm enforcement company. Approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the program is designed to reduce dangerous motorist behavior around school buses and make travel to and from school safer for all student riders.

PVSD district buses are equipped with photo enforcement technology that automatically detects vehicles that illegally pass stopped school buses when red lights are flashing and stop arms are extended.  These violations are captured on video and reviewed by local law enforcement before any citation is issued. A stop-arm violation carries a fine.

PV school buses are equipped with:

These enhancements help protect students and drivers — and come at no cost to the District or taxpayers.

Motorists must stop at least 10 feet away from a school bus with flashing red lights and an extended stop-arm.
You must stop when:

  • Behind a bus

  • Approaching a bus

  • At an intersection where a bus is stopped

You do not need to stop if:

  • You are on the opposite side of the road and a physical barrier (e.g., grassy median, guide rail, or concrete divider) separates your vehicle from the bus.

Always wait until:

  • The red lights stop flashing

  • The stop-arm is withdrawn

  • All children reach a place of safety

Stop-arm enforcement cameras automatically record vehicles that illegally pass stopped school buses. These videos:

  • Capture the vehicle and license plate

  • Are reviewed and verified by local law enforcement

  • Lead to a $300 fine (no points) if approved

    • Have your Citation Number ready

  • Visit www.alertbus.com to:

    • View your video evidence

    • Pay the fine online (credit card accepted)

    • Enter your Citation Number and License Plate Number (no dashes or spaces)
