In Stress Less club, you will learn quick stress relief techniques as well as long term practices that will help you be less stressed overall. Please dress comfortably. Hot chocolate, tea and mats are provided. Bring a throw blanket and a journal if you have one. Kathy Gittelman developed and piloted StressLess™ at Perkiomen Valley Middle School East in response to her students who reported anxiety and stress related to academic issues (tests, grades, getting called on in class, working in groups, etc.); friends, family or teacher issues; low self-confidence; and obsessive desire for perfection. Leveraging her graduate work in movement therapy and generally accepted verbal and nonverbal modalities, Kathy helps students learn positive coping strategies, and the discipline to use them in daily life. Activities during the group session include deep breathing, mindfulness, getting grounded and focused using movement and breath together. After gaining self-confidence and trust within the group, she leads discussions about commonly reported issues and lets students practice problem solving strategies in a safe, supportive environment. “StressLess™ is appropriate and beneficial for any student, but my experience shows it can be life altering for those who are perfectionists, gifted, creative, artists and musicians, with high expectations of themselves,” Kathy said. “In virtually every instance, the skills learned and practiced in StressLess™ are elemental in helping build better students, better friends and better, kinder people.” Mrs. GittlemanEmail
