Professional Development FAQs

Activities that expand knowledge of curriculum, assessment, and instruction, resulting in improved teacher practice and student learning.  

Flex time does not include induction for new teachers. Flex time may include District approved:

  • Face-to-face sessions
  • Online sessions
  • After-school sessions
  • Pre-approved collaboration
  • Pre-approved IU sessions or out-of-district conferences/workshops
  • Learning activities as part of Summer Academy
  • Learning activities on the 3 days designated during the school year (*If you fulfill all hours during Summer Academy or other opportunities such as those mentioned below, you are not obligated to attend school these days), or
  • During the school year outside the contract day (after-school sessions, online sessions, etc.).

Log in to Frontline (MLP) via ClassLink. Click on the District Catalog link (on the left), and follow the prompts to find and enroll in activities.

YES!  We encourage staff to explore options pertinent to their professional role. 

  • To propose a learning activity, complete the form in Frontline/MLP: Learning Proposal ’22-’23 (out-of-district activity)
    • To locate the form: Left navigation -> Forms -> Professional Staff Forms
  • An administrator will review the request (given the guidelines set forth by the Act 48 committee).  Frontline/MLP will provide notification of approval or denial.
  • In most cases your instructor will verify your attendance.
  • Participants must complete the evaluation in MLP following completion of the learning activity or collaboration.

If attending an activity off-site, you must send a certificate of completion to the Curriculum Office.

  1. In Frontline/MLP, click My Info (left side menu).  
  2. Under Portfolio, choose View by Purpose.  
  3. Locate the heading for the applicable school year’s Professional Development Flex Hours.

No, professional development hours earned during a particular instructional year can only be applied to that year.  

  • Staff are asked to confirm/complete all hours by the last day of the instructional calendar.
  • Incomplete hours will be reported to the business department on June 30 and will result in payroll deductions.

Professional Day Hours FAQs

  • Activities such as room preparation, budget preparation, grading, and similar tasks differentiated/ personalized by staff.
  • Hours can be earned onsite or virtual.
  • Staff must be able to provide evidence upon request.
  • Staff MAY apply FLEX hours beyond the earned 18 as credit towards professional day obligations. 

These hours must be fulfilled during the instructional school year calendar.

Log your hours using the form in Frontline/MLP.  Entries can include a combination of activities and hours.

After creating an entries reflecting of all required hours, submit the log.  Supervisors will review and approve.
