GOOGLE ACCOUNT INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS

Seniors, are you interested in saving anything from your PV Google account?

There are a few different options available depending on what you want to save.

Please note, your PV account will be disabled and will no longer be accessible after

July 15th.

If you need help with this process, stop by the Viking Genius Bar at the High School during their hours of operation for assistance. They are located on the first floor near the business/computer classrooms.

Read this section if you want to save only SOME of your Google files.

If you don’t want to save everything, it’s probably easiest to just transfer those files to a personal Google account before you leave.

Check out the video in this section for help with creating a folder to transfer those files and change the ownership to a new personal Google account. If you want to keep your files in Google, go to the second method shown in the video. The first method shows how to make a .zip file.

Note: This video is from a different school, so the dates mentioned don’t apply. You have access to your PV account until July 15th.

Read this section if you want to save ALL of your Google files.
  • Google Transfer is an easy way to capture and transfer all your PV Google account files.
  • There is an icon on your Chromebook called Content Transfer.
  • Make sure you are logged in with your PV Google account to start this process. If you are on a Chromebook, you need to be logged into the Chromebook with your PV account.
  • Take a look at the video in this section to help you with this process.
  • If you’d rather have step by step directions – look at this information from Google.
  • If you have files that are shared with you, make a copy of them to your My Drive before using Google Transfer to make sure you get everything.
  • If you have a large amount of data, this option might say you don’t have enough storage in your personal account.
If that happens, clean up your Google Drive and/or Gmail, select to just do one or the other, OR use Google Takeout instead (see below).
  • The process can take up to a week, especially if you have a lot of things to transfer.
Remember, your PV account will be disabled and will no longer be accessible after July 15, so if you want your items, do this process before that date.
Read this section if you want to save Google Sites you have created in your school account

Google Sites does NOT transfer using Google Transfer or Google Takeout. If you have Google Sites you have created and want to take with you (like your graduation project portfolio), you will need to transfer ownership of the site to a personal Gmail account.

You may need to make a copy of your sites from your personal account to transfer ownership.

Here is a video for more information on transferring Google Sites.

Read this section if you have files to save other than just email and Drive files

If you have more items than just emails and Drive files, or a large amount of data to transfer, check out Google Takeout. It has more options on the types of files you can export, but it’s more involved.

See the information linked here on using Google Takeout.

Again, if you need help with this process, stop by the Viking Genius Bar at the High School during their hours of operation for assistance.
