Perkiomen Valley High School Counseling

The mission of the PVSD School Counseling Program, which serves the needs of a diverse community, is to counsel, educate, and advocate for all students as they pursue their individual academic, personal, social, and career goals by delivering a proactive, comprehensive, and consistent program. In partnership with teachers, administrators, parents, and a caring community, the school counselors will help all students to achieve their personal best.

Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) and Perkiomen Valley High School offer several ways students may earn college credit while in high school. Students (age 15 and older) may fulfill high school requirements and earn college credits in high school. Students may take classes at PVHS (see below) or register for classes taught either online or on-campus at MCCC. These credits often transfer to two and four-year colleges/universities as advanced college credit.

PVHS offers several dual credit courses at PVHS:

  • Web Site Design (semester course)
  • Introduction to Marketing and Management
  • Honors Spanish III and IV

The cost of a MCCC course taught at PVHS is less than $200 per semester.

The cost of a MCCC course taught online or on campus is less than $600 per semester.

Ursinus College and Perkiomen Valley High School have an agreement which provides a tuition-free course program for qualified seniors to take one course per semester. The courses can be in many areas generally available to college freshmen. These courses cannot duplicate courses already offered at the high school. Counselors can provide additional information to you.

Melissa Felty
Mrs. Felty graduated from Lehigh University with a B.A. in Psychology and a M.Ed. in Counseling and Human Services. She earned her Pennsylvania Secondary School Counseling Certification from Rosemont College She started as a school counselor in 2003 at Tri-Valley High School and joined the Perkiomen Valley High School Counseling team in December of 2021 after relocating to the area with her family. She resides in the district with her husband, three children, and Border Terrier. Mrs. Felty enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and traveling. Proud to be a Viking!

Ms. Conlan has been a counselor at Perkiomen Valley High School since August 2021. She completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology and a minor in Chemistry from Lycoming College; a graduate degree in Clinical and Counseling Psychology with a Specialization in Trauma Studies from Chestnut Hill College; and a PA Certificate in K-12 School Counseling from Holy Family University. Ms. Conlan is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Nationally Board Certified Counselor. While at Lycoming College, Ms. Conlan was a member and co-captain of the swim team, founding sister of Alpha Xi Delta, and class treasurer. Prior to school counseling, Ms. Conlan worked in the mental health field conducting assessments, outpatient therapy, and Family Based Mental Health Services. Ms. Conlan lives in Collegeville with her husband and two daughters. She enjoys food, cooking, crafting, and being outside in the warm weather.

Kristin Hannings
Ms. Hannings has been a counselor at PVHS since August 2022. She completed her undergraduate degree at Muhlenberg College, where she studied English and Theatre (with an education minor). She has a Master’s in English from Arcadia University and Master’s in School and Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Gwynedd Mercy University. She is in the process of completing her supervised hours to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. Ms. Hannings spent the early part of her career working as an English teacher at Hatboro-Horsham HS. Ms. Hannings is also a certified yoga instructor and has been teaching regularly for the past 5 years. She resides in Lansdale with her husband, dog, and two cats. She enjoys running, hiking, reading and live music.

Michaela Kolenkiewicz
Miss K is the White House M-Z counselor and began in August of 2022. She graduated from Widener University with her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Temple University with her Master of Education in Counseling Psychology. She completed an internship at Jenkintown School District with grades K-12, and was a long-term substitute at Abington Senior High for two months towards the end of her graduate program. She is the Unified Bocce assistant coach and the PV Girls Bowling Team assistant coach. She loves hiking, reading, and baking.

Ms. Tsai earned her master’s degree in school counseling from the University of Rochester in upstate New York. Throughout her career in education, she has worked in private, public, and charter schools, supporting students in different capacities. Prior to joining Perkiomen Valley High School in 2024, she served as a middle school counselor in the Bristol Township School District. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, working out, and trying new restaurants.

Dorie Sobeck
Ms. Sobeck has been a counselor in the Perkiomen Valley School District since August 2010. She was an elementary school counselor at South Elementary School until 2017 then transitioned to be one of the blue house high school counselors. She completed her undergraduate degree in Communication Studies from Bloomsburg University; a graduate degree in Counseling and PA Certificate in K-12 School Counseling from West Chester University. Ms Sobeck is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Nationally Board Certified Counselor. Ms. Sobeck lives in Chester County and has two sons. She enjoys cooking, baking, reading, being outdoors, and traveling. She especially enjoys being in Maine with her family.

Kate Kelley
Kate Kelley has been a member of the Perkiomen Valley High School community since 2007. She completed her undergraduate degree in English with secondary education certification from Shippensburg University and earned her M.Ed. in School Counseling from West Chester University. Prior to joining PVHS, Mrs. Kelley worked at a community-based crime victims center as a volunteer coordinator, providing crisis counseling and educational services. During her time at PVHS, she served as an English teacher before transitioning to her current role as a Career Counselor. Mrs. Kelley lives in Collegeville with her family. Her daughter is a Perkiomen Valley High School graduate.

Jamie Slack
Mrs. Slack is our high school Social Worker. She graduated from Lock Haven University with a B.S. in Social Work and proceeded to receive her Masters Degree in Social Work from West Chester University. She earned her Home and School Visitor/School Social Work certification from Bryn Mawr College and holds a Pennsylvania State Social Work License. She has worked in a diverse range of social work settings including outpatient therapy, wrap around services, family services, foster care and most notably in the education setting in both alternative education settings and the public school system. She joined the Perkiomen Valley School District in 2019 and joined the cross country coaching staff in 2022. She resides locally with her husband, son and two black labrador retrievers. Mrs. Slack enjoys spending her time watching her son play soccer, being with family and friends, walking her dogs and running.
