We would like to introduce you to a wonderful program in the library—our Birthday Book Program. Through this program you can donate a book to our school library in honor of your child’s birthday. This allows you to do something special for your child and our school at the same time.
Last year this program raised around $5000 for our library and purchased around 250 brand new books! Fundraising continues to be our only source of acquiring new books. When you purchase a book with this program we do the following:

Thank you for your support!
Birthday books can be ordered at any time during the year, but if you want a book ordered specific to your child’s interests, please fill out the attached form and return the form and payment to the school by Friday, October 8th. Request made after the initial order may not arrive in time for your child’s birthday. We will start presenting books when the order arrives, usually, mid/end of October. If your child’s birthday is in June, July, August, or September, we will celebrate on his/her “half-year” birthday (or asap, if you prefer).
The cost of an average library book including special binding, processing, and shipping, is $20.00. We ask for a monetary donation from you, rather than a book donation. You may help us select the interest and grade level of the birthday book, but we would prefer to select the specific books, as we know what we already have and can usually get a sturdier binding designed for multiple user wear and tear. If you participate in the program, we will email you several weeks before your child’s birthday to let you know what book we have chosen.
We would like to have payment included when you sign up. This will greatly simplify the process for us, and allow us better budgeting. Please make checks payable to “South Library Fund.” If you don’t choose to sign up now, this form will remain on the website throughout the year if you change your mind. Questions: please email or stop in
Do you have a morning or afternoon free? Do you like to see things neat and orderly? If so, then South Elementary Library is the place for you! We are recruiting volunteers for our South Library. Jobs for volunteers include checking books in and out for students, putting away books, reading shelves (putting books in alphabetical order or numerical order), and, helping children locate books in the Library.
If you are interested in volunteering, please email the library assistant, Mrs. Stephanie Aguila @ saguila@pvsd.org.
*** Remember that all adults working in the building with children must submit the District’s security forms that can be obtained on PVSD website.***
If you cannot help on a regular basis, please consider being a one-time volunteer during our annual Book Fairs in November and April. More information will be sent home later in the year for Book Fair volunteers. Thank you for your help!
